South of Moreland Rd - Weeding

Those little plants south of Moreland Rd have been choked by weeds...time to give them a bit of a breather.  Hi-vis vests and gloves essential for this section.  I think we could use a mattock or two as well and, if you can....bring water.

If you are free please come along!  It would be excellent to have you there.

Tour ‘Rani’s Patch’ at the Backyard Harvest Festival

Join Rani and her neighbourhood of wonderful gardeners at ‘Rani’s Patch’ a section of the Upfield bike path south of Batman Station which has been transformed into a lush garden. You’ll hear the story of how the site has been transformed and learn the names of the incredible array of edibles and non-edibles which have been woven together to create a scented colourful array of vegetation.

Rani will also provide a tour of her home garden, which is no less inspiring.  Her love of cooking from many cultures including traditional Bangladeshi dishes is reflected in the diverse range of vegetables and herbs she grows. Indian spinach (‘puisak’), bitter gourd (‘korolla’), and thistle grow alongside kaffir lime, turnip, kale, eggplant, persimmon, pomegranate and nectarine.

Sunday 19 November
2:30 – 4:00pm

Meet at the end of Ryan Street, Coburg

Charles Street working bee, Coburg North

  • Charles Street garden (Upfield Forest) (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Charles Street doesn't have a whole lot going for it. A dead-end where it meets the Upfield Line and buried in the industrial zone, it has made an excellent dumping ground for Moreland's litterers (fridges, baths, building waste... you get the picture!)

But change is afoot! Tom owns International Books a stone's throw away and he has banded together with some neighbours to give Charles Street a brighter future.

Join the friendly Charles Street crew for a weeding, planting and working bee. The plan is to make some raised beds out of discarded pallets, and possibly a chair / bench for train spotters. And there will be gardening of course.

Bring tools (with your name on them!), weeding implements and perhaps a snack to share. And don't forget to slip, slop and slap!

It's been mulch-mania here as Vince, Emma and pals have transformed this part of the Upfield Bike Path, just south of Bakers Road, Coburg North over the past six months with plenty of trees. Please bring: Water, appropriate clothes, digging and spreading equipment (put your name on them!) and a wheel barrow if you live close by.

Meet on the bike path next to 37 Bakers Rd.
